Strengthening relationships
The quality of your relationships significantly affects your life satisfaction.
Loneliness shortens life expectancy. People who feel lonely are more likely to experience anxiety, depression and self-harm.
Quality is more important than number of friendships. Even among many people, it is possible to feel lonely. It’s okay to be an introvert, a loner, or have only a few friends. What matters is your subjective sense of belonging and connectedness with other people.
Tips
- Keep in touch with family and friends from your home country. Don’t forget the relationships you already have and take care of them.
- Spend time with your pets if you have any. Relationships with animals are also very beneficial to your well-being.
- Renew relationships that used to be significant but have faded with time. Call or write to an old friend.
- Play a conversation game with friends and take your relationship to the next level.
